These rankings are based on products manufactured by companies and do not include products purchased and resold. There are a number of large system suppliers who purchase treatment and flow products as part of the systems which they sell. Siemens sells complete desalination systems. It builds billion dollar air pollution control systems for power plants. It is a major purchaser of pumps, fans, compressors, valves, etc. If these purchases were to be included in the rankings there would be a new leader board. In addition to Siemens, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Doosan, Babcock & Wilcox and several other companies would be leaders.
The rankings are also changing due to lots of merger activity. When Colfax acquired Howden it was the first major attempt to marry pumps with fans and compressors. The spin-off of Xylem actually eliminated ITT from the top spot but created a new leader.
